Artist Spotlight: Wapit
Emerging from Austria’s growing wave of genre-blending artists, Wapit is carving out a sound that lives between modern pop and atmospheric synthwave. Drawing inspiration from iconic pop melodies, European club culture, and contemporary German artists, his music blends nostalgia with forward-thinking production.
With each release, Wapit continues to evolve... experimenting freely with sound, visuals, and storytelling while staying rooted in melody and atmosphere. His latest track, “Wien hört meine Show,” captures a pivotal moment in his journey: his first time stepping onto a stage and realizing the power of performance and expression.
In this interview, Wapit opens up about his influences, creative process, artistic growth, and what’s next as he builds toward a defining year ahead.
Q: How did your artist name “Wapit” come to be?
A: I was looking for something new that hadn’t been used before. I wanted a fresh name that felt unique and something I could fully build my own identity around.
Q: Your music blends pop with synthwave aesthetics. What draws you to this fusion?
A: I’ve been listening to pop and synthwave-influenced music my whole life. Songs like “Smalltown Boy”, artists like Michael Jackson, and later German artists like Apache 207 really shaped my taste. That mix naturally became part of my sound.
Q: Which artists, eras, or soundtracks have influenced your style the most?
A: Definitely Apache 207 and RAF Camora. They’ve had a big influence on how I approach music.
Q: Walk us through your creative process. Do you usually start with melodies, lyrics, or sound design?
A: I usually start with melody. I originally started out as a rapper, but I really enjoy singing. I like to mix it up... I do both... but melody is usually where everything begins.
Q: Are there any specific synths, plugins, or production tools you consider essential to your sound?
A: Not really. I’m very experimental. I enjoy trying new things, and every song ends up having a different flare. I don’t want to limit myself to one sound.
Q: How do you balance emotion and atmosphere in your tracks?
A: Right now, I focus more on atmosphere than emotion. But I want to change that in the future and aim for a 50/50 balance. It’s important to have both, and it’s something I’m actively working on.
Q: Let’s talk about your latest release, “Wien hört meine Show.” What’s the story behind it?
A: The song is about my first time performing in Vienna at a nightclub that supports artists. On my first day there, everyone was welcoming and encouraged me to go on stage. The song captures how that moment felt.. being there, performing for the first time, and realizing how much I wanted to sing. My favorite line is “let me sing, I’ll never live again” because it really shows that feeling.
Q: How does this release represent your growth as an artist?
A: It’s the biggest jump I’ve made so far. I show that I can sing, work with drums, and make something repetitive in a way that still feels interesting. Even though the song is only 2:20 long, it shows all of my skill sets coming together.
Q: Are there any themes or narratives connecting your recent releases?
A: No, every song is different. I like experimenting and exploring new ideas each time.
Q: Synthwave often comes with strong visual aesthetics. How important are visuals to your project?
A: Visuals are important, but they’re never perfect. As an artist, you’re never really satisfied. Still, they’re getting better with every release.
Q: Do you see your music as cinematic or story-driven?
A: Both. I want my music videos to feel cinematic and tell a story from beginning to end. That’s something I really want to push going forward.
Q: What can fans expect next from Wapit in 2026?
A: I hope to release a lot of new music, put out two music videos, start streaming on Twitch, and maybe even play my first official concert.
Q: If you could tell yourself something when you were just starting out, what would it be?
A: Never stop hoping. I started from nothing—I didn’t have a penny—but I never stopped believing that I would keep going. Hope is the biggest thing you can have when you’re poor, sick, or facing hardships. When everything else is gone, hope is what keeps you moving forward.
Q: Where can people follow you and stay updated on your releases?

Q: Any shoutouts you’d like to give?
A: Yes... first of all, Flouzyyy, my producer, who’s working with major international artists like voyage.mp3 as well as German artists such as Elly. And a big shoutout to Apache 207 for inspiring me so much so far.
