Artist Spotlight: Wapit - The Rising Star of Synthwave Pop

Discovering Wapit: A Unique Sound from Austria

Emerging from Austria’s vibrant music scene, Wapit is making waves with his genre-blending sound. He’s carving out a niche that sits comfortably between modern pop and atmospheric synthwave. Drawing inspiration from iconic pop melodies, European club culture, and contemporary German artists, his music fuses nostalgia with innovative production.

The Evolution of Wapit

With each release, Wapit continues to grow. He experiments freely with sound, visuals, and storytelling, all while staying true to melody and atmosphere. His latest track, “Wien hört meine Show,” captures a pivotal moment in his journey. It’s about his first time stepping onto a stage and realizing the power of performance and expression.

An Insightful Interview with Wapit

In this exclusive interview, Wapit shares his influences, creative process, artistic growth, and what’s next as he builds toward a defining year ahead.

Q: How did your artist name “Wapit” come to be?

A: I was on the hunt for something fresh and unique. I wanted a name that hadn’t been used before, something I could fully embrace as my identity.

Q: Your music blends pop with synthwave aesthetics. What draws you to this fusion?

A: I’ve been vibing with pop and synthwave all my life. Tracks like Smalltown Boy and artists like Michael Jackson shaped my taste. That mix naturally found its way into my sound.

Q: Which artists, eras, or soundtracks have influenced your style the most?

A: For sure, Apache 207 and RAF Camora. They’ve really influenced how I approach music.

Q: Walk us through your creative process. Do you usually start with melodies, lyrics, or sound design?

A: I usually kick things off with melody. I started as a rapper, but singing really excites me. I like to mix it up, doing both, but melody is where it all begins.

Q: Are there any specific synths, plugins, or production tools you consider essential to your sound?

A: Not really. I’m all about experimentation. I love trying new things, and each song ends up with its own unique flair. I don’t want to box myself in with one sound.

Q: How do you balance emotion and atmosphere in your tracks?

A: Right now, I’m focusing more on atmosphere than emotion. But I want to shift that and aim for a 50/50 balance. Both are crucial, and I’m actively working on it.

Q: Let’s talk about your latest release, “Wien hört meine Show.” What’s the story behind it?

A: This song is about my first performance in Vienna at a nightclub that supports artists. Everyone was super welcoming and encouraged me to hit the stage. The song captures that moment—performing for the first time and realizing how much I wanted to sing. My favorite line is “let me sing, I’ll never live again” because it perfectly expresses that feeling.

Q: How does this release represent your growth as an artist?

A: It’s the biggest leap I’ve made so far. I showcase my ability to sing, work with drums, and create something repetitive yet interesting. Even though the song is just 2:20 long, it brings all my skills together.

Q: Are there any themes or narratives connecting your recent releases?

A: Not really. Each song is a new adventure. I love experimenting and exploring fresh ideas every time.

Q: Synthwave often comes with strong visual aesthetics. How important are visuals to your project?

A: Visuals matter, but they’re never perfect. As an artist, I’m never fully satisfied. Still, they improve with every release.

Q: Do you see your music as cinematic or story-driven?

A: Both! I want my music videos to feel cinematic and tell a story from start to finish. That’s a goal I’m pushing for moving forward.

Q: What can fans expect next from Wapit in 2026?

A: I’m hoping to drop a lot of new music, release two music videos, start streaming on Twitch, and maybe even play my first official concert.

Q: If you could tell yourself something when you were just starting out, what would it be?

A: Never stop hoping. I started with nothing—not a penny to my name—but I never lost faith. Hope is the most powerful thing you can have when times are tough. When everything else fades, hope keeps you moving forward.

Q: Where can people follow you and stay updated on your releases?

A:🔗 Linktree: https://linktr.ee/mr.wapit

Q: Any shoutouts you’d like to give?

A: Absolutely! First off, a huge shoutout to Flouzyyy, my producer, who’s working with major international artists like voyage.mp3 and German artists like Elly. And of course, a big thanks to Apache 207 for being such an inspiration.
