“Pressure builds diamonds. This is the sound of survival.”

There’s a cold wind blowing out of Saskatchewan, and it’s carrying the raw, unapologetic voice of BUSHIN—a self-produced Canadian artist channeling vintage Memphis horrorcore through lo-fi grit and personal war stories. His newest single, “Grip That Pistol Tight,” isn’t just a track—it’s a cinematic atmosphere packed into two minutes and thirty seconds of cold-blooded boom bap.

We caught up with BUSHIN ahead of the official release to talk survival, sonic darkness, loyalty, isolation, and how a Canadian artist made the most dangerous-sounding underground track of the year—without ever leaving his mind. What followed was one of the realest, most unfiltered interviews we’ve ever done.

And before you dive in—make sure to pre-save the track right now and tap into the YouTube visualizer for the full experience.

🎧 STREET INTELLECT & ARTISTIC GRIT

Unknown Artist: What pulled you toward that Memphis horrorcore bounce instead of something more typical in Canada?

BUSHIN: I came up in stoner-based communities where $uicideboy$ was huge. Then I got into ‘80s and ‘90s Memphis underground. That sound called to me. It felt like home.

Unknown Artist: You write, record, and produce everything yourself—what’s your creative war zone look like?

BUSHIN: Littered with the bodies of dead ideas. Real chaotic. That’s the battlefield.

Unknown Artist: Your music sounds cinematic—if “Grip That Pistol Tight” was a movie scene, describe it.

BUSHIN: That scene in Breaking Bad when Hank kills the twins. I saw that as a kid and was like, “Holy shit.” That’s what this track feels like.

Unknown Artist: How did growing up in Warman shape your understanding of isolation, coldness, and resolve?

BUSHIN: I’ve always felt alone. From birth. Family and mental health struggles made me feel isolated constantly. It never went away. That’s what built the resolve.

Unknown Artist: There’s pain in your tone—do you use music to process the past or to prepare for the future?

BUSHIN: To process the past. You don’t know what’s coming. Can’t prepare for what doesn’t exist yet.

Unknown Artist: Which bar from this track hits you the hardest when you spit it back?

BUSHIN: “Woke up feeling down, but a motherfucker be feeling alright.” That came after a real convo with a friend who helped lift me up. I wrote it right from that moment.

Unknown Artist: How would you say you were influenced by artists like GodhandUSA?

BUSHIN: Their pitched-up vocals and speed gave me confidence in my own voice. They made me feel like it’s okay to lean into the high pitch. Their beats are wild, too—it’s hard not to be inspired.

Unknown Artist: If you could bring one dead rapper back to hear your music, who are you resurrecting?

BUSHIN: Lord Infamous. Gangsta Boo too—RIP. I think they’d both f*** with my sound, heavy.

Unknown Artist: You say this is “the sound of survival”—so what are you surviving right now?

BUSHIN: My own headspace.

🕯️ FINAL WORDS

“Grip That Pistol Tight” isn’t about glorifying violence—it’s about surviving your own inner warzone. BUSHIN isn’t your typical Canadian rapper, and he doesn’t want to be. He’s carving a lane where pain, pressure, and pitch distortion collide with cinematic soundscapes and unapologetic self-expression.

Whether you came for the 808s or stayed for the emotional grit, this one’s for the real ones.
